COXON, Julie Ellen

June 28, 2008 8:39 AM

1969-2008

Julie passed away on June 25, from pneumonia and complications of Chronic Granulomatous Disease (CGD), a rare and life-threatening genetic condition. She was diagnosed at age twelve and participated in CGD research at the National Institute of Health as well as the medical trials for the drug Interferon (now called Actimmune).

Julie was born in Santa Barbara on June 22, 1969. She moved with her family to Oahu, Hawaii at age five and returned to Santa Barbara in 1979. She attended La Cumbre Junior High and San Marcos High Schools. She also attended Santa Barbara City College and received a degree in Radiology. She worked as a waitress for many years while also making two ten-month trips to the South Pacific. After completing her extensive travels, she began working at the Santa Barbara Medical Foundation as an X-ray Technician where she worked until her health issues forced her into retirement.

Julie loved life. She loved her family and friends plus her cats and bunny Bradley. She had a zest for life and was always working on a new artistic project. She had a huge heart and an abundance of love. She loved the ocean and walks on the beach. She learned to swim at Chinaman's Hat in Hawaii. Her family wishes to thank all the physicians who played a part in her care. In addition, to all RNs and staff members at Cottage Hospital who had any part in her care,we sincerely appreciated all your wonderful care. A special thank you to the entire CCU staff , Julie's care was impeccable. Julie is survived by her mother Gwen Coxon of Santa Barbara and sister Kristine Ewing (Todd) and nieces Ashlynn and Cayden of Ventura; nephew Jamien Ousey of Santa Barbara; uncle Mark (Jenny) Coxon and nieces Cheyenne and Joie of Santa Ynez; Uncle Bruce (Emily) Rolland of Redondo Beach; Aunt Gail (Michael) Stichler and nieces Kendra and Hana of Santa Barbara. Julie was preceded in death by her father Stephen Coxon; sister Deborah Coxon; grandparents Bruce and Hilda Coxon; and Raymond and Dorothy Rolland. In lieu of flowers, the family requests any donations be made to Calvary Chapel or Bunnies Urgently Needing Shelter (BUNS) located at the Santa Barbara County Animal Shelter, 5473 Overpass Rd.

A private memorial service will be held for the family. Arrangements by Welch-Ryce-Haider Funeral Chapels

Hi guys, I just heard about this and signed up. I've contacted Danny Plancarte, Lee Ly, Rafael Mendez, H. Van Truong, and Lawrence Joh (Now Lawson Baker). Van knows Mark Brier they both live up in the Bay Area, so he is going to contact Mark. I see Jon Valois and Rusty Mendoza around town a lot, so next time I see them I'll tell 'em about it. I told my ex to contact Gloria Ortiz, she's one of her friends. Kept in touch with James Hyams up until a couple of years ago when he moved to.... Denver, I think? Wow.... I remember Greg's funeral. Whew. Long time....

Wow, I cant believe its been 20 years already, my daughter just turned 15 and my son will be turning 13 this year. I have been married to my high school sweetheart almost 17 years now. and I have been in the Air Force for 18 years now. I could actually retire in 2 years but I am going to keep going. Too young to retire yet. Hope to see everyone and I hope we have a big turn out. Take care and see you all soon.
